Alejandro's journey....in his words

"I grew the love for football at a young age because of my dad. At the age of 12 in Florida is when I got on to my first competitive team. I saw the most growth from 15-17, playing pickup every night at a local park, even after team trainings. After high school, I took the JUCO route and played 2 years there where I was awarded All-American designation. This opened up a wide variety of scholarship opportunities to a 4-year colleges. I chose the University of Cincinnati on full scholarship where I was awarded All-Conference. From there the grind didn’t stop, I was doing more individual trainings than ever. After my senior year, I signed a pro contract with Orlando City (USL). From there, I ventured over to Mexico and played with several division 2 teams like Coras de Tepic and Irapuato for the next four years. Today, I run my own personal training sessions as well as coach HS soccer."

FROM THE BEGINNING - Scott's Story

As a youth playing club soccer at a high level in Louisville, KY I was first introduced to "futsal" (we called it salon soccer which translates to indoor) by one my coaches as a way to work on our footskills and maintain our fitness level. As a team, we always seemed to be a little more techical, more creative, and more comfortable on the ball in tight spaces on the outdoor pitch. Unbeknownst to me at the time, it was this off-season training that attributed, in part, to our overall success including several state titles.

Years later, as my wife and I started to grow our family, I got the coaching bug early on. In 2004, when I took over my first club team with a bunch of raw but eager U9 boys from Southern Indiana United (SIU), we took to a nearby gym after a pretty tough fall season. It was there that I started teaching futsal as well as speed, agility and quickness training to help them for the spring. The outcome was incredible to see the boys with a higher level of confidence, control, and fitness which made their spring season success well-deserved because of it. For many of the boys, they continued to raise their level of training taking them to the highest levels of club ball along with successful high school careers. 6 (out of 10) boys became captains of their teams. 5 received collegiate athletic scholarships. Two boys in particular from this group went on to play for top-shelf DI programs, Indiana University and the University of Louisville.

After taking a break for a couple years following stints at a few other clubs, I decided to get back into coaching in the winter of 2011 with SIU once again. I took over a team that was going through recent struggles and my one requirement was that they train on futsal with me over the winter. After 3 months of training, the team had taken huge strides forward in their development. The by-product of their hard work took them from a .500 team to going undefeated that spring which I know the boys and parents wont forget anytime soon. As the years passed, these boys continued to come back to winter futsal training as a part of their off-season training program.

Its been 9 years since we started and through organic growth, the training program expanded to 2 teams, then 4 teams, then 8, boys and girls, young and older, and so on and so on. Today, we train in three locations with a full group of experienced trainers supporting the effort. The benefits of futsal training are valuable and tangible. Futsal is an important part of soccer that could help propel US soccer overall to a higher level and we're doing it right here in Southern Indiana with the our soccer youth. For that, I'm just glad to be a part of it.
