FAQ: OPTIONS FOR WAIVER COMPLETION & PLAYER FEE PAYMENT

NOTE: all these options assume that the Manager has previously entered the players into the team roster

Option #1 PARENT pays the US Youth Futsal fee using online access
     a) parent receives the "Welcome to the League/Tournament" email which contains a link to the player specific online waiver form
     b) the parent confirms online parental waiver consent form and clicks "Save"
-> on the Team's Account webpage the Player Waiver Status icon will change to “green”
     c) the parent continues with the payment form and pays the US Youth Futsal player fee via credit card or PayPal
-> on the Team's Account webpage the Player Payment Status icon will change to “green”

Option #2 MANAGER pays some or all of the US Youth Futsal player fees, and the selected Parents only complete the waivers
     a) Manager communicates to the selected parents to complete the USYF Online Play Registration but NOT to pay the USYF fee
-> this may be done for the whole team or selectively for only players for whom the manager will pay the player fee
-> parents who will pay the player fee directly (online) should use Option #1 (above)
-> the remainder of this process only applies to parents that are not paying the player fee directly (i.e. for whom the manager will pay)
     b) the parent receives the "Welcome to the League/Tournament" email which contains a link to the online waiver form
     c) the parent confirms online parental waiver consent form and clicks "Save"
-> on the Team's Account webpage Player Waiver Status icon will change to “green”
     d) the parent exits the payment form (i.e. simply do nothing more); for instance click on the home page of the browser
After the the waivers have been online approved by the parents (which may take days), then proceed with the following:
     e) the manager (via the team account page), clicks on "Make Payment" (located above the Team Roster list)
     f) a list of players is shown whom have completed their waivers but not their payment
     g) select the players for whom to make payment
     h) click "Pay" at the bottom of the window and proceed to pay by credit card or PayPal
-> on the Team's Account webpage the Player Payment Status icon will change to “green”

Option #3) if a parent does not have online access (this is most labor intensive)
     a) the parent completes the paper form of the US Youth Futsal waiver form (Click here for a paper US Youth Futsal player form)
-> the manager keeps a copy of the USYF waiver form and forwards the original to the League Administrator
     b) when adding the player to the roster, the manager should use the manager email address as the player's parent email address
-> the manager will receive the "Welcome to the League/Tournament" email
     c) the manager then decides Option #1 or Option #2 to complete the USYF waiver form and fee

FAQ: GUEST PLAYER POLICY

During the regular season, teams are allowed to have up to 3 guest players per game. However, due to the competitiveness of playoff games, guest playing is not allowed during playoffs. All guest players must be registered in the league.

FAQ: GAME RESCHEDULING (PLEASE TRY TO AVOID THIS)

Don’t do it; this is usually very difficult. First Rule: if you have the players available then play (e.g. find a backup coach/parent if the head coach is not available). Second Rule: if you are low on available players then still show up and work to find guest players. When you have exhausted options and all you see left is forfeit (and we want to avoid that) then try the following. Contact the other team (i.e. not the league administer) and try to identify available dates/times to play (and this also informs other team that the original date/time is not working). The league scheduler will try to show available game slots (for all weeks) on a Schedule by Venue worksheets (note: the "Available Field Slots for Reschedules" found on your Team management webpage is not a trustworthy source). The Schedule by Venue worksheet should be found on the Navigation Menu on the Stanford Palo Alto Futsal League website. When you have identified a potential available game slot (or have another idea) then contact the League Schedule via FutsalLeague@stanfordpaloaltofutsal.com.

FAQ: WHAT TO BRING AND WEAR

What to bring and wear: Players should wear normal soccer clothes, shin guards, and GYM or Futsal shoes. For league games, a team uniform should be worn. Try to bring a dark jersey and a light jersey. If two team show up with the same colors, the home team (i.e. team listed on the left on the game schedule) will wear pullovers with a different color.

Futsal Shoes: The futsal shoe is rubber soled. While any soft rubber soled shoe (such as tennis shoe or gym shoe) is acceptable, a futsal shoe has the following characteristics:

- rounded toe
- maximum bottom (sole) surface area (to optimize floor grip)
- padded, flat top of shoe
- side support
- low heel

Like any gym floor sport, the bottom of the shoe should be clean of dirt and residue. To get started, use a general purpose gym shoe, and based on performance determine if you need to upgrade.

Futsal Balls: There are two size balls used for youth futsal:

Futsal Ball Size #4: U13 - Adult, circumference of 62 - 64 cm (24.4" - 25.2") and weight of 400 - 440 g (or 14.1 - 15.5 oz)
Futsal Ball Size #3 (also called "Junior"): U9 - U12, circumference of ~22cm and weight of ? g (or ? oz)

Currently there is not a known "official" youth standardized futsal ball. A futsal ball has a different construction than a similar sized outdoor soccer ball. Specifically the futsal ball has a thicker (cushioned) feel and less bounce. This helps keep the ball on the ground and more control and comfort on the foot. It is heavier than a similiar size outdoor ball. The transition to the larger ball size at U13 is influenced by the weight of the ball. The use of the smaller ball for the younger ages places less stress on the ankles and knees. The transition to the larger ball at age U13 is similar for outdoor youth soccer, and for the same reasons, i.e. the weight of the ball.

A futsal ball may lack a size identification (e.g. you may NOT find a "Size 3" label). Perhaps the vendor is fearful that an outdoor soccer ball (which typically has a size identifier) will be confused as an equivalent futsal ball. In fact, they would be right to be concerned. In a retail sports store that mixes outdoor and indoor balls and has sales folks that sell baseball and soccer balls, the differences are not (at all) obvious.  Therefore specifically look for the word "Futsal" on the ball, and an indication of a recognized adult ball size, or youth size (e.g. "Junior").  Commonly recommended futsal ball are the Select Jinga Junior Futsal Ball (for U12 and younger) or Select Jinga Futsal Ball (for U13 through adult).
