Training Groups

Training Groups are in 2-year increments (U9/U10, U11/U12, etc). Any player who has been playing for an SIU club/travel team should register for Session 1, 2, or both. If a U9 player but no club/travel team experience, you can elect to choose the Academy Junior group starting out. Placement is as much about current ability as it is age. Trust me, we will train them up and when he/she is ready, we can move back up to their proper group.

Would like to Play Up? Players may request to "play up" an age group but must have proven history or ability to compete with the older age group. Please include background information in the notes section of your registration to support the move.  Once futsal starts and we have seen players compete, we may make changes (up/down) that most benefit the player in situations where we can accommodate. SO IN Futsal's Director has final say on player placement.

Older 8th Grader? If a player is U15 but in the 8th grade, he/she can participate in the U13/U14 age group. If the player is playing at a higher level and wants to play up, we can consider moving up to the HS league knowing that it is league games only.

Advanced Training

Want Advanced Training? For the first time, we will be offering Advanced Training for the player who has prior futsal experience and/or club/travel experience and is looking for increased training focus. This supplemental training will hone in on advancing technical skills as well as tactics of play to compete at higher level. Players who are interested will also have the opportunity to play in futsal tournaments that SO IN Futsal plans to attend this winter. Please email if you are interested for your player or a group of players.

Program Information

  • Registration includes 1 training + 1 game each week. Some dates may be adjusted to accommodate for holidays, school, or gym conflicts.
  • There is an $13.50 player registration fee to US Youth Futsal national organization providing insurance, registration, and online services which is a requirement to participate.
  • EACH PLAYER NEEDS A FUTSAL BALL. You can order through (preferred) or visit Soccer Village or Dicks Sporting Goods in Louisville. You can get a decent ball for under $30. The Select brand has been good. Senda and Nike are some other brands. We also have some loaner balls if/when needed.
  • Academy Junior players (U6-U8) DO NOT have to bring their own futsal ball as SO IN Futsal will provide for each training.

  • SO IN Futsal follows the calendar year format as developed by US Soccer.
  • Age groups range from U6 - U14 with the goal to assign groups inside 2-year increments. Academy Junior group is U6-U8.
  • There are benefits to a mixed gender training as well as single gender groups. We have had both over the years. We will have to see how registrations look for each age group and gender before deciding.
  • Groups will be determined by age, skill level, and space availability. There may be a need to move some players up or down for various reasons. Final decisions will be at the discretion of SO IN Futsal's Director. Because this is a training academy, we want players to be closer in ability so as to challenge the player and advance the group along more consistently.
  • Players can request to "Play up or down to the next age group" and should put that in the notes/comments of their registration with detailed background information to justify the move up. Following discussion with SO IN Futsal's Director and possible review of player in competition, a decision on 'best fit' will be made each session.
  • Groups will be decided once we see the numbers we have for the session.

  • Training sessions will run for 1 hr 15 mins on a weekday evening (M-Th) for age groups U9-U14. Academy Jr training runs 1 hour.
  • Younger groups usually train earlier in the evening (starting around 530 or 630p).
  • Older groups usually train later in evening (starting around 645p or 745p).
  • Training groups and game schedules will be communicated following the completion of player assignment into their respective groups.

  • Each game runs for 1 hr on Saturdays between 9-5p. Rare, but it could occur that games get moved to a weeknight or a different venue.
  • Similar to last year, the younger age groups will play the earlier game times.
  • Players will be assigned onto teams with a plan to create some parity in each age division.

  • Training and game locations will primarily be Hill City Church (fka Cornerstone Church) gym and/or Galena Gym next to Floyd Central High School.
  • As conflicts occur or makeup dates are established, we may have to utilize some alternate locations for training or games.
