Protecting Our Players - US Youth Futsal to Require SAFESPORT Online Training

US Youth Soccer forges ahead to keep players safe by raising the standards by requiring best of breed SAFESPORT online training.

OVERLAND PARK, KS, July 13, 2018, – Power of Protection: United States Youth Futsal’s (https://www.usyouthfutsal.com) goal is to develop great players and promote the game of futsal, and one can only do this in a player safe environment. The priority must be the player.

As of August 1, 2018, U.S. Youth Futsal (USYF) is proud to announce that all staff members, registered coaches and team officials will be required to take the U.S. Center for SafeSport’s (https://safesport.org) online course which covers sexual abuse, hazing, bullying, emotional and physical misconduct, and the new, mandated by law reporting obligations.

“A player’s safety from being abused is of paramount importance to me personally and to our entire organization,” said Jon Parry, Executive Director and founder of USYF. “We want to set the highest of standards. The online training is free for USYF coaches and staff. We are committed to providing the safest environment and raising the standards in futsal.”

Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and SafeSport Authorization Act of 2017 (https://www.congress.gov/bill/115th-congress/senate-bill/534/text?format=txt) was signed by the 115th Congress and became law February 14, 2018. The purpose of the bill is to prevent the sexual abuse of minors and amateur athletes by requiring the prompt reporting of sexual abuse to law enforcement authorities. The bill extends the mandated reporting requirements to National Governing Bodies and to affiliated organizations like USYF.

“Abuse is a monstrous and reprehensible crime and we are proud to help provide our coaches, players, and community with Sexual Misconduct Awareness Education,” said Parry. “Futsal is the optimum way to develop better players,” said Parry. “At USYF, our mission is to develop players of exceptional ability and passion who can compete at the highest levels in the United States — and our new Player Safety Initiatives protect young athletes and ensure training in a safe environment.”

With these new Player Saftey Initiatives, USYF continues to take a leadership position in the youth sports’ world and offers programs for players of all levels including Futsal I.D., International Teams, Coaching Education, Referee Development and the newly launched USYF Academy program providing comprehensive training for elite players.
